Year 7 ‘Green Team' create sustainable Christmas Ornaments

Posted 12th December 2023

Dixons Newall Green's Year 7 eco ‘Green Team’ had a wonderfully festive morning creating Christmas ornaments made entirely from discarded and waste materials (except for bio degradable glitter and cement-based filler for the fake snow). The resources included logs from local fallen trees, decorations discarded as litter plus holly, pine cones and other winter foliage brought in by the students.

A massive thank you to Wythenshawe Waste Warriors for providing the materials for today's workshop at Dixons Newall Green Academy. Barny Beswick delivered a talk about re-using materials and the effects of micro plastics (particularly glitter). Barny recently won this year’s BBC Radio Manchester Make a Difference award for all his work in the community.

The Green Team are looking forward to their next workshop which will include looking at micro plastics under microscopes and making bug hotels.

Go Green Team!
