2024 Chinese New Year- Dragon Challenge

We held our Year 7 Chinese New assembly and the judging of their Dragon Challenge in partnership with Swire Chinese Language Centre Manchester.

What an amazing showcase of their creativity, commitment and resilience and the culmination of weeks of hard work from all Advisory Groups.

In honour of Chinese New Year our entire Year 7 cohort were tasked with creating their very own Chinese dragon using cardboard boxes. Their brief stated they must explain how they created and decorated their dragon and selected Chinese symbols presented on the dragon.

In front of a strict judging panel, including Executive Director Mr Harrison, Principal of Academy Mr Garvey and our office manager Mrs Turner, each of our Advisory Groups stepped up to present their wonderfully elaborate and colourful dragons.

It was a very tough choice, thank you to all the students who took part after much deliberation we were thrilled to announce our winners…

First Place: Scafell Pike

Second Place: Ben Nevis

Yichun our mandarin teacher also organised for The Lion Dance performance, it was incredible to be able to see and experience such an important cultural tradition. As well as two of our very own talented students had choreographed a dance to perform on the day!

Following this we also had an incredible family dining meal of Chinese foods; this allowed us to be fully immersed into Chinese culture!

Well done Year 7, amazing work! And thank you to Yichun for organising such an amazing celebration.
